J. O. Ladrönn

Ladronn I’m not exactly sure why someone would want to draw a sci-fi comic with an anthropomorphic hippopotamus in a trench coat as a lead character, but Mexican comics artist J. O. Ladrönn sure does a bang-up job of it. In addition to that project, (HipFlask, written by ComicCraft’s Richard Starkings and Joe Casey), Ladrönn has applied his considerable talents to a number of projects for DC and Marvel including work on The Fantastic Four and three issues of a very cool Inhumans mini-series in cooperation with Carlos Pacheco.

The HipFlask site has more art than the official J. O. Ladrönn site on Hollywood Comics, but the latter is easier to navigate. There is also high-res Ladrönn art here, which is for sale.

Site Quirks: The HipFlask site has an intro you can't skip and is not well organized. There are three sets of navigation and their relationship to each other and the site content isn't clear. Content comes up in a confined frame that is often too small for the images. Many of the images are linked to a pop-up of a larger version and/or text links are sometimes provided to hi-res downloadable desktop versions. There are images in places other then the gallery. Keep poking around. LadrÃ¶nn's Hollywood comics site is somewhat amateurish but more straightforward and easier to navigate.
