On the surface level of my work, one can see a shifting of dimension and distance within colors and fields, which seem representational of various places in nature. Under this surface though, in my eyes, a painting is a center point, a culminating nexus where all the pieces of a life, in all its complexity and experience, become focused and connected. I paint in an attempt to get myself to release the hold I have on what I consider reality for a moment and be reminded of something more, a place in or outside of time and movement within memory and collective cultural ideas. My work is not landscape; I don't see my paintings as places although the work does carry a sense of place. Rather, I see the movements left by my hand, which in turn came from those experiences I carried with me to the canvas at that place.

Nice post. There's a lot of useful information here, especially for bloggers who are just getting into tweaking CSS and such.

Charley, your series on setting up a website has been very helpful. Your 'finger of shame' pointed directly toward my site on many counts. The admonition that people will click off if the presentation requires too much work is very appropriate. My navigation was requiring visitors to be detectives. If that weren't bad enough, categories were interspersed throughout the site rather than grouped. Now I'm starting to address these problems.
There are already encouraging results even though I still have lots more organizing to do. Before reading your posts, I'd been losing over 2/3 of my visitors at the home page. They had no obvious button to click for entry. But after making a few changes, the stats have made a full swing in my favor. Now 3/4 of my visitors are clicking beyond the home page into the site. A complete reversal, and then some! Referrers have also increased as a result.
Thanks for putting together the information which is a great guide for planning.

Daniel,

Thanks for the vote of confidence and the suggestion. Though I'm putting alot of work into this series, I've put books together before and they are another order of magnitude in terms of effort.

Also, alot of what I'm providing here is access to other resources on the web, something that's more difficult to do in print.

Other readers should check out Daniel's <a href="http://www.danvanb.com/" rel="nofollow">web site</a>, with galleries of his paintings and drawings in a variety of media.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm working pretty hard to make this series useful and i'm glad to know it's appreciated.

I'll go further: You should collect all these posts on how artists should look at web presentation and show them to a publisher. In the aggregate think you have a very marketable book here.
