Don't know if there is a specific answer to this question . But on a recent trip to MOMA I noticed that the painting Night at the Cafe" was signed "Vincent" large and the name of the painting was named by the artist and painted in the right hand corner. I did not see this on any other paintings. Does anyone know why it was only on this painting. (Hope I am explaining myself) If noone knows can anyone give me an idea of where to go for the answer?

Just happened to get into linesandcolors. Its exceptional and very interesting.

Actually i am also having a website on paintings www.paintersera.com and was really interested in knowing how to have it promoted from the initial concept that has been layed. When time permits it will be great if you can spend some time out there.

I also have a blog page, http://blogs.mywebera.com/
Would also like to have your presence here. I will anyways have your link blogged in our page as well.

Thankx.....

In this shot of <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=arles,+france&ie=UTF8&ll=43.677536,4.627047&spn=0.000906,0.001738&t=h&z=20 rel="nofollow">Place de la Forum, we were sitting where you see green umbrellas in upper right, Van Gogh Cafe is just below that, red awning top. Roughly where this shot was taken from (not my shot), but the plaque wasn't there at the time. (Another photo).

This is the hospital courtyard (now a community center I think). I believe Starry Night Over the Rhone was done from somewhere along the quay in this area. Photo here.
That last link is to the current Van Gogh exhibition at the Albertina in Vienna - looks interesting.

Charley - I have to confess to being a dedicated 'follower in their footsteps'. Nothing gives me a bigger buzz on holiday than being able to go to the locations where great artists painted and to see what they saw.

Your post reminds me of my very first visit to Provence at the end of the 1980s when I seem to recall I managed to fit in a visit to St Remy - and a walk around the Van Gogh trail of about five locations near the asylum where he did his paintings - plus a visit to Cezanne's studio in Aix.

I'd love to know where you were sitting in Arles - I remember trailing round on a rainy afternoon trying to find the places associated with Van Gogh.

I can see a quick trip to Holland next year might be required.......
