You might want to also look at the work of Tucker Smith, who paints animals, both wild and domestic, as well as landscapes and other subjects. His buffalo are some of the finest ever painted, and I include the great Carl Rungius in this judgment.
And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the late Bob Kuhn. There aren't many really good animal painters plying their trade today, but anyone who rises above the trite and sentimental in painting wild animal subjects mentions him as an influence. He left behind a remarkable body of work.

Buffalo dig huge wallows and when it rains, they wallow in the mud. When it is dry, they wallow in them to eliminate the flies and give themselves a dirt bath. This is a great image of a buffalo bull in his natural setting doing what comes naturally.
